WL//WH Video of the Day: DORIAN’S STEAMING SHADOW “Toxic Harmony”

Video Of The Day DORIAN’S STEAMING SHADOW

Formed in 2022 in Białystok, Dorian’s Steaming Shadow is a Polish Post Punk / Gothic quartet made of Kamil Sołowianowicz (vocals, lyrics), Marcin Gliński (bass, backing vocals), Kuba Totczyk (guitar), and Filip Poliński (drums).

Following their 2024 debut full length, “Frozen Nightmares,” the band deliver a sneak peek into the forthcoming sophomore album, “Spring Anxiety,” due out at the end of September via Poland’s oldest Independent label Antena Krzyku, with a music video for the first excerpt, “Toxic Harmony.”

Inspired by the 80s new wave and 90s alternative rock, with “Toxic Harmony”, the four-piece aims to fuse the spirit of early Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, New Model Army, and The Sound with the energy of IDLES, The Horrors, and The Murder Capital.

The song explores existential and melancholic territory, confronting certain forces that can quietly and insidiously wear us down while simultaneously seeming to make us stronger. To what extent do these experiences define who we are?

Fueled by a “Toxic Harmony” in a relationship, a propulsive rush of skittering drum beats and humming bass lines anxiously stumble under a droning vibrant, encircling haze of intermittent dire, melancholic-keyed melodies and piercing, poignant, rippling guitar effects, to echo, hauntingly over urgent, restless male vocals, ranting about the mindset of a loved one into a calmed-down interlude, and a final sweeping release of angry tension, “Don’t follow me!.”

In the paired black and white visuals, Dorian’s Steaming Shadow performs “Toxic Harmony” in a windowless area under strobing conditions. The strategic use of light and shadow cycles perception from dark with clearly defined edges to a blurry, grey reflective depth, then blinding white oversaturation, and an awkward fisheye lens exaggeration. The only color in the video is a patchwork kite, set in the center of the backdrop, made of red, yellow, green, and blue triangles that each band member places their hand on at the beginning of the clip.

Keep up with Dorian’s Steaming Shadow:
