WL//WH Track Of The Day: SPEAR FLOW “Nothing Grows”

Track Of The Day  SPEAR FLOW

Hailing from the Schaffhausen DIY scene since the early Hardcore years, passing through the rather gratifying atmospheric Synth-Pop endeavour as Walter Frosch, with a couple of appreciated albums under their belt, leading to extensive European and US tours, the Swiss duo of Rune Dahl Hansen and Mike Saxer return under the new Spear Flower moniker, to deliver an harsher, full-bodied and jagged, Industrial-dusted synthetic sound, amid early ’80s glacial Wave angst and gravelly, bitter NIN electronic textures.

Spear Flower serves up the first excerpt and title track, “Nothing Grows,” from the upcoming debut 4-track EP due on July 16, 2025, via the local independent label The Supermarket.

Cut through the dense, numb and dreamy hazes from the two-piece’s previous musical venture, for a distorted, murky shadowy intensity, igniting a hallucinated journey between anxiety and despair, where gritty and buzzy throbbing low-ends interlock with mechanical, punchy programmed beats, topped by the swirling resonant drama of sharp glazed, icy synth loops laced with desolate drifts, while, on the brink, warped vocals shift into nervous, obsessive whispers, then soar into angry screams, to express being in a crazed state of mental anguish, thus everything feels bad and cursed.

Spear Flower‘s forthcoming 4-song EP, “Nothing Grows,” is slated for release in Cassette & Digital formats on July 16, 2025, via Swiss independent label The Supermarket.
