WL//WH Track Of The Day : BELMONT WITCH “Powerful”

Track Of The Day

Belmont Witch was initially the solo moniker of Mexican-born, since 2010 Paris-based, Michèle, before adding three members, JérômeMilia and now Vincent, over the years. The band are going to drop, after a first cassette EP via Montagne Sacrée, their 8-track 10″ vinyl debut album “Inercia” on 21st December through the “fiercely independent” Parisian label Buddy Records.

Michèle is also the guitarist and singer of 4-piece band Rose Mercie with her friends Charlène, Inès and Louann, fresh from release their first LP in early 2018 on Jelodanti, Monofonus Press and SDZ.

Belmont Witch‘s urgent and poignant sound seamlessly and organically blend together different elements from lo-fi pop, psychedelia, post-punk, grunge and noise-rock making their style difficult to pinpoint.

The spine-tingling first preview “Powerful” unfurls strong, anxious and harrowing vocals fuelled by repetitive, hypnotic and obsessive sharp guitar screeches of looming tension and danger, before a solid rhythm section emphasises and moves forward a restrained yet excruciating cry of anger, shame and disgust of a woman alone and overpowered, seeking to right a wrong only to find herself threatened and ignored.
Intense and visceral perfectly set an intriguing tone for the upcoming album.
