BRIDES – Norway
On June 4, BRIDES (Norway) published their second full-length album “Sandcastle” through the labels Produkt 24, and Violet Hour Transmission. BRIDES is actually the sonic capsule of Adrian Borgia (Adrian Kjøsnes). I found this in my EPK, which I believe is the best trigger for this listening…
“SANDCASTLE” LP is an album that explores the ephemeral nature of all things, ranging from vast empires, personal relationships and states of being. Written over the course of a little more than a year, taking influence from external and internal affairs, the 27 minute long ride is sharp, concise, and to the point, yet allowing for moments to linger where deemed atmospherically necessary.
Among these 7 new tracks, BRIDES displays an inherent talent in “narrating” the music that he is very familiar with. Beyond that, however, and what makes the “Sandcastle” album more than remarkable, is that it has the musical magic that takes me to the soundscapes where this artist exists. Essentially, he does so directly and immediately. Apart from that, his music blends post-punk, darkwave, and synth elements, all featuring a certain gothic undertone. I was pleasantly surprised to hear some garage-rock guitar jamming in one of the tracks on the album. I was truly amazed by the richness of his vocal colors, and I found myself getting hooked on several of the new songs.
The entire “Sandcastle” LP presents an ongoing adventure, characterized by nighttime rhythms and low lights, especially during the first listen. I believe it’s perfect for a drive lasting about an hour (preferably not in the city), where its true qualities will reveal themselves further. I’m happy for BRIDES, who is releasing a new album that no matter how simple and abstract it may sound at first, hearing it again makes it feel more special, complex, and wonderful overall.
For me, the second or third time I listened to a slightly different album, it’s a work that offered many musical ‘meanings’ and ‘interpretations’. I am magnetised with “Some Kind Of Reptile”, “Gold”, the ‘preaching’ in “Dark”, and my fave track of the album, “Here”, yeah!
The entire album has music that the dark alternative front will love, because it’s a good album, and it’s also a useful album by all means!!!
Keep up with Brides:
