Video Of The Day MANNEQUIN FLOWERS

Mannequin Flowers, the London, UK-based four-piece made up of native Brazilian Isadora (vocals/guitar), Luca (guitar), Luci (bass) and Huw (drums), seamlessly inject their slightly off-kilter blend of Dream Pop and Shoegaze into a surreal, nightmarish Music Video, directed by polymath artist Oliver Marson and edited by João Gabriel Guinho, for their latest single “White Silver.”

We make music in the space where dream-pop beauty starts to fracture. Drawing from shoegaze, dream pop and post-punk, we put melody, lyrics and tension at the centre of songs that move from dreamy and ethereal to heavy and unpredictable. Rather than disappearing into walls of sound, we’re interested in contrast: sweetness against abrasion, intimacy against alienation, and moments of stillness that can suddenly turn into noise.

“White Silver” is about anxiety. That voice you desperately want to silence, but have lived with for so long that losing it feels just as terrifying.

Its gripping sound reflects a haunting and confusing, dire emotional mindset that drives drum beats to stumble along a gloomy, straining bass line swathed by a dry, abrasive storm of poignant ringing guitar riffs with a wailing, piercing edge, layered with rousing synth washes, to build abrasive swarming mists around desperate, fearful, melancholic female vocals, battling an inner demon that is set, like stone, in its ways.

The Official Music Video for “White Silver”, directed by the polymath artist Oliver Marson and edited by João Gabriel Guinho, unfolds as a surreal Lynchian dream. A house with large windows next to a wooded area at sunset creates the supernatural backdrop for Mannequin Flowers, as they perform a séance with a glowing red crystal ball. Their ritual summons, from deep within the forest, a man wearing a stag mask to secretly enter the house. Subdued jewel-toned lighting, skewed camera angles, and strategic use of shadows heighten the dissociative vibe of fun amid danger before a surprise theatrical ending sends a hard jolt of shivers up the spine.
