Originating in Italy in 2017, the Cardiff-based art pop collective, follows last year’s well-received eponymous debut album, with a new single “Venilia”, an effortlessly enjoyable, heady Dreamy Indie Pop reverie, featuring Giuseppe Magagnino (orchestral arrangement) and Andrea Rizzo (drums), accompanied by a music video, directed by Eliseo Di Malto, that beautifully depicts the surreal vibes.
Sunlit and perky outwardly yet with a subtle lingering bittersweet undertaste, the ’80s-tinged “Venilia” elicits invigorating summery chills, drowsed in blurry melancholic moods brimful with salty nostalgia, that ebb and flow in soft caressing moods wandering into dreamy, restless melodies of angsty dazzling synth swirls and swelling wistful washes along with enveloping, stirring string layers, lilted by hypnotic erratic drum beats, and groovy limber bass pulsations, to carry ecstatic breathless vocal harmonies through carefree airs of back-up bliss into a lush and distorted breeze of sunny romantic folly.
The vibrant video, by Eliseo Di Malto, captures a lost day at the beach under a cloudless sky of timeless destiny. Dramatic popping hues mix with wind-blown tresses and universal symbols for love and fantasy, gently swaying the viewer into an ethereal lyrical setting, whilst seamlessly syncing with serene sonic nuances of sentient seashore sensations.
