PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • Örebro-based, Swedish Post-Punk /Dream Pop /Shoegaze six-piece Kallsup “Chimär (GBG)” second single from the upcoming sophomore album “Alldeles för nära” [VÅRØ]

A second, once again, compelling single from the Swedish collective that weaves contagious shadow-wrapped energy with captivating emotionally charged harmonies and sparkling guitar work. The song floats over a vibrant surge from a sonorous, churning bassline and steady, thumping drum beats, while shimmering, wistful guitars jag and hopelessly high-echo into an urgent droning swarm alongside ghostly screams that fall around lush, emotional female vocals, battling feelings of angst, gloom, and pain, amid longing for ‘let it all be.’

  • London-based art-rock /shoegaze /doom-pop duo Dandelion Graves “Nine Lives” single
  • Bielefeld, Germany-based Turkish shoegaze /dreampop band formed in Istanbul, Plastic Ideas “Gerçekten Mi Yenildik” (Really Lost) single

The Germany-based, Turkish outfit enhances and colors its atmospheric shoegaze sound with intriguing folk and progressive elements, through a haunting and emotional shimmering mid-tempo tapestry woven by introspective arpeggiated acoustic guitar melodies and a stirring wandering of fluting keyboard motifs, swirling dramatically atop evocative, anguished male vocals, agonizing in an empty fear after letting a loved one go to save them from the abysmal darkness.

  • Toronto, Canadian shoegaze /slowcore solo project of songwriter and musician Charlie Berger (Soft Wounds, Slowly, With Hidden Noise), aka Dormer “Threadbare” 2nd single off upcoming fourth LP “Old World, New Ghosts” [Lossleader Records]

Second teaser from the Toronto songwriter, lyrically about feeling like an actor reading lines at the end of a relationship. Arpeggiated melancholic guitar melodies snake and circle each other, over a soft, shaking bed of splashy, sensible percussions, glistening with vulnerable shades and shivering emotive resonance over dreamy, tragic vocals longing in layers of pain-filled sadness and anxiety.
