New Music FUNSOVER
Berlin, Germany-based newcomer alternative rock four-piece Funsover, made up of Enrico Baldarelli, Otso Latva-Somppi, Pilar Sarchione, and Andrew Ward, drops an Official Music Video, written and directed by Sofia Koivusaari and Otso Latva-Somppi himself, for the debut single “Needles”, a song about searching for the elusive needle in a haystack.
Dubbed by the band “grange rock”, Funsover blends 90s-style alt-rock with noise pop hooks and immersive shoegaze textures.
Exploring the feeling of attempting to do the impossible, “Needles” combines driving, shuffling drum beats and moody bass lines with a rugged and scratchy distorted guitar flow, crested by achingly screechy spirals, to encompass wistful, anxious female vocals, with dizzying waves of dreamy introspection and fretful dread.
The Official Music Video, written and directed by Sofia Koivusaari and Otso Latva-Somppi himself, syncs the high-energy dreaminess of the soundtrack with a fun, action-packed thriller. When it seems unachievable for Funsover to get their debut track recorded in Berlin, they decide, “It’s time to take matters into our own hands.” Then, a shadowy nighttime car ride takes the band to a studio where they hold the recording engineer, Freddy Corazzini, hostage at gunpoint to record the song “Needles.”
