Jakarta‘s quartet is back after a long hiatus of around 4 years, except a couple of sparse tracks in various compilations, with a new single that adds sparkling and vibrant post-punkish jittery guitar tones to the band’s nostalgic and shimmering indie catchiness to instil urgent warped and droning vibes around hypnotic relentless breaths of angsty emotions to dream eternally for a brighter day.

In the title track from their upcoming first LP, Vermont‘s shoegaze 3-piece harnesses an equally atmospheric and noisy fuzzed-out weft of distorted reverb-laden guitar haze and strident wailing leads amid fine slivers of hope, slowly waxing and waning, underpinned by steady stumbling rhythms, through a grey painfilled mist of broken dreams around detached, airy vocals dropping aching longing and melancholy into a slow sway of ragged fear.

From this week’s batch of enticing 7″ vinyl singles dropped by Athens‘ Old Bad Habits Label, I pick the 3-tracker from Hamburg‘s power-pop 4-piece Crabber, fresh from last year’s brilliant LP on Jigsaw Records. To the Greek sun and wine is dedicated the title track, distinctive of the band’s energetic and catchy noise-pop laced with punk urgency, that rumbles through poignant and nostalgic distorted loud guitar riffs combining carefree days and an inebriated haze around the sassy evocative vocals, dropping poetic odes of love, sunshine, and “Greek Wine” into upbeat catchy harmonies of seaside memories.
