PICKS OF THE WEEK:
  • Göteborg, Sweden indie /dream pop 4-piece BOY WITH APPLE “Strawberry Boy” new single on VÅRØ.

The Swedish dreampop band are back after around a year and a half since their debut EP, reduced to a trio, exploring goth-tinged, mid-80s Cocteau Twins-esque ethereal realms combined with The Pains of Being Pure at Heart emotional jangly hints.  The mesmerizing new single resonates and glistens with misty melodic brilliance and breezy melancholy laced with subtly lingering layers of unsettling swells, over the murky droning bass tones and the hypnotic trails of crystalline icy guitar chimes around the soft somber thoughts, celestial hums, and angsty cries of a dreamy soul left longing in a dizzying magnetic aura of a seemingly blissful enchantment.

  • Northern Michigan indie rock /folk twin duo Birchwood Ave “Blue Baby” from the upcoming debut album “Losing Faith in Michigan” on heavenly creature records

Michigan twin duo Sam and Mae Smith concoct melancholic and blissful dreamy folk that ebb and flow, fresh and invigorating, imbued with bittersweet harmonies and slight shoegazing reverberations. The immersive debut single “Blue Baby” draws from the local Michigan seasons, lyrically, to infuse nostalgic, woozy, and dreary airs of sparkling ripples and washes of reverberant breezy guitar drifts laced with surreal introspection, underpinned by cymbal-charged sparse crisp percussions, whilst sad haunted dual vocals, amid emotional piercing leads and fragile yet poignant piano melodies, unfurl an enveloping, evocative web of hot and cold frisky feelings.

  • Riverside, Ca goth /shoegaze /dream pop bedroom recording project of Daniel Romero, aka DREAM SUICIDES “It’s Better Not To Say Anything” new 2-track single

Equally haunted and introspective new single from our ‘old favorite’ talented Californian shoegazing dream-pop musician, wrapped in a hazy hypnotic cloud filled with an ethereal, reverberant teem of shimmering and echoing guitar chimes, weaves painful memories through an obsessive rambling of fear, brooding and regret, whilst hopelessly vulnerable and isolated vocals long in silent suffering to be understood. A possibly improved, cleaner and resonant version, with unsubmerged vocals on the foreground, of “Missing Soul” from around 7 years ago on the flip.
