Weekly Electronic Music Tips // JULY 2026 #29-26

PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- >> DARK DISCO #185 podcast by MORAVIE
French DJ, curator, and producer Moravie bursts with a powerful blend of EBM, dark electro, coldwave, acid, and dark disco, bewitching you to step into her seductive, pulsating sonic darkness.
- Sweden atmospheric /cinematic /deep drum & bass veteran pioneer DJ-producer Sebastian Ahrenberg, aka Seba “Autonomous” from “Autonomous / Planet 6” EP [Secret Operations]
Time seems to have stood still since his mid-90s, or little more, early efforts with the refined, lush, intelligent sound of the seminal LTJ Bukem‘s Looking Good/Good Looking imprint; the Swedish D&B pioneer has not lost his unique penchant for crafting glittering, jazzy and soulful immersive jams of deep emotional allure. “Autonomous” churns with snappy skittering breaks, buzzy low-end swells, sheer wistful guitar resonances and soft cosmic pads, while gliding celestial vocals tease with a ‘let it in’, absolutely impossible to resist. More sparse and sober, yet equally infectious, the dub-wise flip rolls effortlessly over sinuous, rubbery bass pulses and glowing synth motifs resounding with an elated melancholic poignancy.
- Bristol, UK acid /bass /breakbeat /drum & bass producer Primitive Instinct – “Acid Ritual” from “Acid Ritual / Hot One” single [Transparent Audio]
Bristol producer fuses Drum & Bass and Acid through an eerie, thrilling combination of driving, tight metallic breaks and low pulsing bass throbs to drive under erratic waves of resonant squirming squelchy-ness, abrasive buzzing swells, and excitement-inducing synths, to surround expert voice clips that explain the different kinds of hallucinations, into the rising and falling tides imbued with trippy lysergic echoes.
- Italian ambient /drone /breaks /half-time /percussive /psychedelic /drum & bass /deep techno producer Mauro Picciau, aka Last Life “The Moat” from 侍栽培五 EP [SABAI]
Italian producer ushers the listener to the haunting, primal, psychedelic intersection of D&B and deep techno. “The Moat” ploddingly rolls out a crisp yet restrained percussive carpet that expands and sways with subtle, distant twilit inserts of infinitesimal synth fluctuations, under a deep sense of reiterated hypnotic minimalism, augmented by anxious wooden rolls, to mesmerize, envelop, and invite a trance before fading away.
