PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- Nadcast 002 – SCHWABE
A staple of Belgrade‘s electronic scene since 1994, Serbian DJ and producer Nebojša Bogdanović aka SCHWABE, one half of the iconic ethno-tinged TAPAN, with a 94-minute live mix for Skopje, North Macedonia‘s The Deepest Purple Club, to dance to ‘with the lights off, strobe on, and volume up to 11’. A dark, slow-mo, pulsing and immersive psychedelic electronic headspace nestled in a mesmerizing and entrancing sonic meltdown where the experiences and emotions, the sublime and the uncanny blur.
- Mexican EBM /dark disco /slow-techno/electronic musician and producer Alacrán del Amor “Dark Waves” off upcoming “Dark Waves” EP [Nein Records]
A dark dancing slow-paced immersion from the eclectic Mexican producer, via the increasingly effective and equally eclectic Nein Records, in spectral droning waves of clank-flecked pounding drum kicks, tense rubbery and buzzing basslines along with icy spacey synth, to insinuate feelings of danger and excitement, amid spine-tingling obsessions.
- Bogotá, Colombia Italo /synthwave /electroclash /EBM producer Disco Radical “Pins & Leather” single
A hypnotic, high-energy dancefloor dominance erupts from a barrage of crisp and crackling percussion-charged hard-hitting beats, a gritty undulating bass line loop, ecstatic old-school flashing synth stabs, and menacing glowing strings, whilst a terse, rousing male/female vocal interplay teases “Pins and Leather.”
- Vienna-based darkwave /industrial /experimental pop /post-punk /art-project duo of Turkish origin, Zack Zack Zack “Yaradan (Majestoluxe Alfred & Charles Remix)” from the remix LP “Album 2.5” [Rennweg Records]
From the just dropped Turkish/Viennese duo’s excellent second volume of remixes, a chilly, hypnotic, both cacophonous and surreal, acid-stained rework by the Swedish experimental industrial electronic artist Majestoluxe, pulsing on a bed of crispy punchy percussions and droning basslines, penetrated by jarring high-pitched frequencies, bouncy jingly synths, and surreal distorted vocal clips, with hypnotizing mind-bending results.
