WL//WH Video Of The Day: MY RAINING STARS “Fine”

WL//WH Video Of The Day  MY RAINING STARS

After having spent about three decades writing guitar pop songs with dedicated, unwavering devotion, gradually tweaking an increasingly solid and melodically incisive songwriting, the French auteur Thierry Haliniak, as well part of the Indie Pop trio Meyverlin, paraphrasing an Oasis song, looks back in nostalgia to offer a revisitation of “Fine”, a song written in 1992 with his 35-year-long friend E-grand, who also produced, arranged and mixed the forthcoming My Raining Stars fourth studio album, “Toy Club”, scheduled for release on July 10th via Too Good To Be True (EU) and Shelflife (USA).

I wrote Fine back in 1992 for Nothing To Be Done, my first band with E-grand—there’s probably a version of it on a cassette tape somewhere. I suggested to my friend Didier that we revisit it; I felt it made perfect sense to have it on this album with his arrangements. I just added the bridge after the first chorus and changed some lyrics, but otherwise, the structure and vocal melody remain true to the original.

Mastered by the legendary Mark Gardener at OX4Sound, “Fine”, accompained by a music video, directed by his fellow Maud Anyways, is about how some people can bring you light as you are going through hard times and how these people can lift you up and finally help you to find your life goal.

The song arouses a warm, wistful longing that crawls away over an unfolding strata of subtly sparkling guitars poignantly weave and hypnotically ring, underlied by slapping drum beats and a sinuous, elastic bass groove, around sad, lonely male vocals, missing the freedom, fun, wonder and delight of youth with supportive layers of heartfelt backups.

The music video, created by Maud Anyways, is a montage of live footage from that era; it’s my ultimate nostalgic song.

The companion video by Maud Anyways features archival footage, provided by Bruno Michelon, from gigs filmed during 1992 with Haliniak’s first band, Nothing To Be Done. A blurry vintage nighttime vision shows friends moseying down tight neighborhood roadways before arriving at the Toy Club, where, inside, a young Thierry Haliniak performs “Fine” alongside his bandmates.  Hazy yellow lights strobe over an excited crowd who wave a banner in the front row whilst lightly jumping to the sentimental tune. At the end of the clip, the four band members, wearing matching white T-shirts with dark lettering across the chest, take a final bow toward a lively clapping cheer, syncing seamlessly with the nostalgia of the soundtrack.

My Raining Stars‘ forthcoming fourth album, “Toy Club,” is due out, Digital and CD, on July 10, 2026, co-released by Shelflife Records (US) and Too Good To Be True (EU/ROTW).
