PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- Mexico City-based neo-psychedelic /shoegaze band Endlesss “Void” from “Late Reflections” EP [Shore Dive Records]
New 5-track EP from Endlesss rife with a heavily reverb-drenched, highly emotional, and engrossing guitar-driven sound that draws deeply from psychedelic and shoegaze heritage, wavering seamlessly between hazy, reflective parts and soaring, fuzzed-out edges, simmering and bursting in shivering, lysergic daydreams. Besides the previously released three singles, the vibrant ringing “We Will Be All Right” wanes and amps back and forth under long saturated streams of slightly abrasive dreamy and comforting vocals, while the closing unleashes a buzzing whirlwind of driving drums, woven with gritty bass lines, that fuel a break loose of droning riffage intensity, enmeshed in wailing high-pitched reverberations, crunchily spinning into a hypnotic, climactic “void”.
- Tunisia shoegaze /dreampop band Glasswing Butterfly “710(Watershed)” single
North Africa‘s Shoegaze outfit from Tunis returns with an emotionally drenched, vibrant yet atmospheric third single that chugs along a relentless, propulsive drumming and a droning bassline, scratched by loud buzzing guitar blasts with a wistful epic edge, to fuel melancholic, hopeful male vocals, steadfastly projecting strength through an abrasive haze of squealing distortion, while exploring the daily ritual of birth, death, and the attempted murder of truth.
- Clare, Australia, jangle indie pop band fronted by songwriter Joel Carr, The Boltons “And She Will Smile” single
A nervous yet urgent new song from Australian pop auteur breaks through the drab monotony of life by unleashing tight slaps of drums, and jagged slashes of sharp, jangly guitar riffs that relax momentarily, to sparkle and fizz around angsty romantic croons, asking for a kiss to get a smile.
