Andromeda, the Brazilian Darkwave duo formed in 2018, comprised of Obi (music) and Jackie (lyrics, vocals), unveils a DIY Official Video for “Céu / Sky”, taken from their recently released 5-track EP “Hipnose.”
A distinctive collection of ghostly, haunting, subtly slow-evolving songs of gothic-tinged elegance, balancing light and shade, devotion and loss, through an immersive blend of stripped-down cold electronics, cinematic ethereal atmospherics and an organic classical edge, laced with a lingering melancholic vibe.
The stirring, grief-laden ambiance of “Céu / Sky” unfurls a dire perpetual melancholic piano melody that relentlessly warbles and subtly resonates with the sheer swells of key chords and glassy frantic flutters over the seashore, whilst a hypnotic undertow of nervously humming bass loops and a trudge of pounding, crisp snares, grounds a beautiful range of emotional female vocals, crested by quivers of pain, to let go of a deep sadness amidst yearning for what could have been.
In the DIY Official Video, Jackie wears a black dress as she sits and walks on the seashore. The waves gently lap as she gracefully dances, then walks hip-deep into the water. A haze hangs over the atmospheric vision, causing evocative contrasts and textures to appear dull. A graceful arm dance combines with trace overlays to give the supernatural appearance of four arms. At 4:00 minutes, Obi walks by, but he is ghost-like and in the shadows. The clip ends with the woman wading toward a grey, monochromatic horizon to become fully submerged beneath the ocean.
