WL//WH Track Of The Day: THE SECRET FRENCH POSTCARDS “Shame”

Track Of The Day THE SECRET FRENCH POSTCARDS

It has been a long while since we featured the Swedish Post-punk darlings The Secret French Postcards as our “Track of the Day.”

Started in 2016, the now four-piece continue with ever-growing confidence and artistry on the trails of the glimmering, evocative and atmospheric Post-punk heritage of timeless fascination, from bands such as Echo & The Bunnymen, Chameleons and early U2.

The new single, “Shame,” via Cold Transmission Music, the compelling third drop of the year, after a long invigorating break, is a ‘song about feeling trapped because of shame – whether it’s in a prison, a job, a relationship, or within oneself – where, for some reason, you blame yourself and feel ashamed’.

“Shame” unfolds with murmuring, brooding bass lines pulsing somberly, joined by steady, crisp drum patterns, underneath glowing showers of glistening guitars that pierce the chilly darkness with shivering, melancholic intensity, steeped in a slightly abrasive hazy veil of distortion, to reverberate with a swelling ethereal yet harrowing edge over hopeless, agonizing vocals adrift, in a self-imposed trap of shame, with a weary pool of pain.
