Following last April’s well-received debut self-titled EP, Shadows Veil, the musical brainchild, born in 2023, of Portuguese duo Walter Teixeira and João Pinheiro, returns with the new 2-track single “Dying Star”, framed by the handmade draw cover artwork by @andam.faunos.pelos.bosques.
The band deliver a melodic, vibrant and moody take on the familiar archetypal goth-tinged Darkwave sound, well-balanced into an equally catchy and emphatic synthetic/organic instrumental crossbreed, to delve into the most obscure shades of the human soul’s tormented emotional complexity.
In “Dying Star” time is of the essence as a frightened person searches for a saviour, dancing on the bouncy urgency of a clinking and pounding drum programming along with rumbling, throbbing basslines, layered by reverb-drenched shimmering guitar shivers melded with wistful atmospheric synth drifts, over desperate vocals, digging deep inside a well of anxiety and confusion.
Immersive and enveloping, the romantic New Wavey ballad, “This Could Be Us”, is decorated with sparkling veils of echoing guitars and humming synth cinematics, whilst wistful emotional vocals achingly dwell between longing and fear.
