Video Of The Day SHOSTA
Started in 2020 during the pandemic period as the solo project of musician, singer, lyricist, producer, and composer Peter “SHOSTA” Grimm, joined, since 2022, by drummer Moritz Fris, Düsseldorf, Germany-based duo SHOSTA crafts an intense, dark, and uncompromising sound, blending Darkwave, Bodypop, and Synthpop.
The new single, “Allein,” deals with a lost soul who is alone under the light of ‘we walk on by’, amid isolation, loss, and a crumbling landscape of both mental and physical ruin.
A powerful and moving song that dances between the grit and the sentiment with earnest melodic sensibility, deftly combining clattering, tight dance beats and craggy, jittery syncopated bass grooves with warm, enveloping, forlorn synth poignancy and urgent, worried vocals, melancholically aching for Fritz, a homeless person who lost his job.
Carl Osterwald‘s music video places grey, moving granules over a couple desperately trying not to slip off an unstable foundation. Above the duo, who dance in harmony, a pair of large hands, also covered in charcoal dust, begins to create conflict and division. Near the end, the volume of a music speaker turns up, causing the powder coating to spin rapidly in tandem with the accelerated frequencies. Finally, we see the man standing alone on the platform with six other identities hovering nearby.
