WL//WH Track Of The Day: SWAN DRY “Dazed & Confused”

Track Of The Day SWAN DRY

After just under 2 years, SWAN DRY, the Naarm/Melbourne-based collaborative Post-punk/New Wave project by friend musicians Davo Escott (VOX & Bass) and New Zealand-bred Oli Gaskel (Guitar, Synths & Drum Machine), return with their second single “Dazed & Confused.”

“Think Sleaford Mods & The Fall meets 80s Dunedin Sound”, suggests the pair, through a tensile and vibrant mix of stripped-down, organic/analogic instrumentation, built on a repetitive drum machine, moody bass pulses, and abrasive guitars to support a sprawling vocal delivery, rife with nostalgia, angst and grit.

The lyrics explore the suggestive state of modern society through a lens of delinquency, politics, hypocrisy, and immaturity.

“Dazed & Confused “ hops over a slinky, gloomy bassline that slowly bounces with a casual drum pattern, amid washes of forsaken liquid synths, layered with jagged, plinky guitar riffs. The penetrating agony augments with reverberating swells of both glowing and scratchier forlorn stabs around riled-up, melancholic male spoken-words, questioning ‘the death of the hippie spirit.’
