WL//WH Video Of The Day LiiGHT
Expanded to a trio, the Nottingham, UK-based Coldwave act Liight, led by founding members Nick Horton and Chris Marsland, follow last year’s debut EP “Visions,” with a music video, directed by Jack Armstrong, for the darkly introspective new single “Self Destruct,” an electrifying spin on the 80s UK Synth-Laden Post Punk.
Overwhelmed by the heavy burden of another’s self-destruction, haunted baritone vocals brood with melancholic resignation over a relentless stark undertow of chugging bass lines and crisp stacked beats, cut through by wistful tinny guitar riffs and wandering moody, emotional winds of harshly radiating keyboards and epic immersive glows.
Accompanied visuals by Jack Armstrong show a black clad and understated, with heartfelt intentions, Liight perform “Self Destruct” on a hazy set while creative editing turns light reflections into a ghostly vision. A brief clip shows, as if awakening from sleep, a debris-strewn demolition cavity come into focus, to sync with the thought-provoking psychology of the lyrics.
