Geneva Drive, the experimental ambient/shoegaze lo-fi home recording project of Perry McDonagh, formerly half of the late ’90s West Midlands duo Avrocar, has dropped a one-off single, “Static Over Silence,” mastered by Epic 45’s Ben Holton.
“Static Over Silence” is a deeply immersive, beatless, dreamlike contemplation set with grace on an enveloping string of shimmering, oneiric guitar reverberations that form vivid emotional contours, ushering us into a stirring, intimate aura.
A static hiss fills and leaves space for a heartwarming blend of airy, crystalline radiance, hazy rarefactions, and melancholic, shivering melodies, enshrouding peaceful, soulful vocals that flow like calm devotional waters, floating between heaven and earth, while yearning for connection and unity.
