Following the highly promising 2024 debut LP, “Butt Sore”, and on the wings of excitement from their first European Tour, the Viennese Indie Rock sweethearts Topsy Turvy return with the new single, “Pretty People”, the first glimpse of the forthcoming sophomore album scheduled for Spring 2026, via Siluh Records, paired with an Official Video by Alexandra Elsbacher, Filius de Lacroix, and Filiale Film, WL//WH is pleased to premiere.
The Austrian three-piece, made up of Theresa Strohmer (guitar), Lena Pöttinger (drums) and Victoria Aron (bass), delivers a back-to-basics yet irresistibly fresh harmonization of reckless Punk and Garage Rock energy, moody 80s British Post Punk exuberance with an oblique, melodic Surf/Indie pop sensibility.
Surrounded by a nostalgic, rowdy Rock and Roll vibe, the groovy slice of fuzzy garage abrasion drives sonorous, wiry twangy guitar melodies and gritty distorted riffs layered with spectral keyboards, alongside staunch, hard-hitting drum beats and anxious, meandering bass throbs, to jag and harshly resonate around loud, quirky female vocals, agitated by the doubt caused by the “Pretty People.”
In the Video by Alexandra Elsbacher, Filius de Lacroix, and Filiale Film, Topsy Turvy performs “Pretty People” at Schlösslkino, a vintage movie theatre in Vienna that was established in the early 1900s. The threesome dress in old-fashioned bloomers, white face powder, and curled hairstyles reminiscent of the prostitutes from the Victorian era. A smoky stage, transformative shadows and strobing light segments seamlessly bring forth the dissociation and the inner and outer reality discrepancy, expressed in the soundtrack.
Keep up with the Topsy Turvy:
