Tangent is the longstanding collaborative project of Dutch producers Ralph van Reijendam and Robbert Kok, whose music occupies a space where ambient electronics, IDM, glitch, industrial textures, and cinematic atmosphere converge.
Across a growing body of work, the duo has developed a distinctive sound built from dense electronic textures, ghostly synths, intricate rhythms, and a persistent sense of movement between the organic and the synthetic.
WL//WH is pleased to premiere the Music Video for “Denial”, taken from Tangent’s seventh album, “Disclosure”, a surprise drop today, October 16, via the Oakland, California-based label n5MD, announcing their return, not only to recording but to the simple desire to create together again, after a three-year hiatus.
A multifaceted whole, as intricate as it is cohesive, with a tactile consistency, toeing the line between light and shadow, organic and synthetic, “Denial” provokes a deeply immersive, fluctuating, emotions-led aural path of insightful, visionary intensity.
A deep yet vibrant heartbeat, punctuated by scattered pulses from muffled rhythmic patterns, interacts, through a warmly radiating open ambience, with a swirling array of rippling glitchy streaks, glistening whirring echoes and wistful, sonorous chimes, to shift, after lonely melodies and buzzing, doom-laden tones join in, into a gritty and scratchy texture, over a beat that is now heavy, tensile and stumbling. Afterwards, sweeping, subtly abrasive layers on top take away the spare light and leave only harsh, piercing electronic spasms that struggle to remain lit before burning out under the cold, leaden, crushing frequencies.
The paired visual begins on a coastline before revealing that a nearby town has been demolished and lies in catastrophic ruin. Near the destruction, an urban sprawl with skyscrapers cloaked in fog sits in the shadows under the sun’s hazy rays. Then, a contrast of locations occurs, alternating between folks walking down dust-covered streets with tents set up alongside apocalyptic ruins, and a store where people run, through a black Friday madness, like savage animals on crack with large-screen TVs awkwardly shoved under their arms. Finally, aerial footage travels across the rugged peak of a snow-dusted mountain where thin, white, bright clouds reside. The clip is disturbing and initially causes a great deal of shame, disgust, and melancholy before an added layer of anger sinks in at the hands of mass mind-control manipulation.
Tangent‘s seventh album “Disclosure” is out today, October 16, 2026, on Vinyl 12″/MiniDisc/Cassette & Digital, via the N5MD label.Keep up with Tangent:
