• UK synth-pop duo THE DISTANT MINDS “Bedlam” new single                                                                 

Heady alchemy of four-on-the-floor solid propulsive rhythms, pulsating stuttering, basslines, bright sweeping nostalgic synth melodies, atop tragic emotional male vocals laced with an engaging narrative. Deceptively luminous and harmonious, albeit at the same time deeply imbued and darkened with existential malaise, utterly danceable while wandering among the tides of despair. “Bedlam” encompasses all the contrasting qualities of the best classic and timeless electropop with a refreshing flair.

The enveloping and eerie Underthinker‘s cold wave treatment adds trancey electronic and even final rave twists, through ghostly detached cold female vocalizations that light poetic lyrics with nocturnal passions, propelled by a steady bleak, later acidic, throbbing and walking bass line along with punchy beats, amid eerie tinkling synth chords, to deliver a bone-chilling “Epitaph” stirring the darkest recesses of the shrouded soul. Someone rightly commented on YouTube, it’s a song that somehow will stick in your head. Dead-on!

Nantes‘ outfit leave their synths in the background, only to darken the abrasive guitar-laden sound of their second track so far, driven by heavy slashing metronomic beats and ominous warbling bassline, to inject layers of looming, brooding tension stabbed by discordant excruciating guitar riffs to squeal and resonate with high-pitched sorrow, fueling the detached agony of female vocals lost in dark dreams of stifling pain.
