Video Of The Day HALEIWA
Blending the washed-out aesthetics of dream pop with a lo-fi take on modern psychedelia, Stockholm-based multi-instrumentalist and composer Mikko Singh, under his Haleiwa moniker, has unveiled the first single from his upcoming sophomore 10-track album, dedicated to his departed beloved mother, “Hallway Waverider”, scheduled for release on November 25, 2022 via Morr Music.
The Swedish musician, operating with a Tascam 244 4-track cassette recorder and Tascam 388 8-track reel-to-reel recorder to transform the analog sounds of his vintage synthesizers, bass, the occasional guitar part, and drums, supplied by Svante Karlsson, into a perfect balance between electronic music and lo-fi aesthetics while rambling seamlessly through elements of Surf Rock, Garage Punk and Dream Pop.
Repetitive, delicate, sad piano keys harmonise into a dreamy, ecstatic flow of soft winding misty synth cinematics, emotive organic guitar chords and peppy, angsty drum beats, to form slow swishing immersive tides of out-of-body experiences around lost, isolated vocal contemplations, floating and falling weightless through surging, circular timelines of life, fate, and rebirth.
Groovy hand-drawn visuals, directed and animated by Thorarinn Johannsson, melt and pulse into an abstract wonderland of hope and dreams. Morphing imagery, cloned identity, and a surreal imagination invoke heady cathartic vibes of ancestral insight to open hypnotic portals from under a heavy veil of carefree spectacular themes.
Haleiwa‘s second album, “Hallway Waverider”, is due out, in Vinyl 12″ & Digital formats, on November 25, 2022 via Morr Music. On pre-order from Anost.net.
