The immense prairie of new bands from every part of the planet, created by the advent of the internet, is practically impossible to explore in depth, it’s physiological let something slip through the cracks.
LAS ERAS, a band emerging from Buenos Aires, Argentina had already released their debut 4-tracker “VOL. 1” last May, passed unnoticed to most, me included.
Characterized inter alia by stunning graphics, both for the covers and flyers, inspired by ’60s/’70s vintage porn movie images, the 3-piece, comprised of Agustin Sperlee (bass, synth), Sofia Castro (vocals, synth) and Lucas Loto (synth, vocals), wasted no time, and the second EP “Austral”, which was already been lying quietly on Instagram since last month, is now a reality on Bandcamp.
A hypnotic, vaguely disturbing, yet danceable unraveling of synthetic dark minds and cold hearts relying intensely on minimalist instrumentation of drum-machine, synthesizers, and electric bass to complement alluringly haunting female vocals, walking on the thin line between darkwave, post-punk, minimal synth, and synthpop.
Propelled along by taut, repetitive kicks and hi-hats, “Frio” unleashes dense and sinister bassline that throb and sinuously bounce, with a subtly groovy and sensual vibe, in the forefront, embraced by deep icy gloomy synth sweeps, as a drab, disconnected, female vocals, indulging in the shadows, share sad, detached yet seducing frozen introspections.
Four equally nostalgic and modern, slightly lo-fi, DIY songs with distinctive cold melodic quality, delving into dark and danceable obscure synth-laden realms to great effect, I would not be surprised to see Las Eras on labels like Detriti in the near future.
