WL//WH Review: CHRISTINE PLAYS VIOLA “F.I.V.E.” LP [Cleopatra Records]

WL//WH Review CHRISTINE PLAYS VIOLA

On January 19, Cleopatra Records published the new full-length opus “F.I.V.E.” by the Italian post-punk act Christine Plays Viola. Fear Increases Violent Emotions” is the actual title of the album, and it is a masterfully crafted record on all levels (really). While it may seem—and indeed sound—that CPV is in great shape, it’s important to note that they took two years to create this album. During this time, they allowed their songs to develop naturally, focusing on what they wanted to present rather than rushing the process. The result certainly justifies their approach, as we are discussing a very talented band from Italy.

They’ve been a well-known band for years, recognized for their strong presence in the music scene. With their new album, they demonstrate significant maturity in their artistic direction. This unique album consists of 10 tracks that not only embody their signature dark style but also act as a catalyst for new ideas. It feels as though they have concentrated their thoughts, resulting in a recreated version of the band. Here, they bring their structural elements to the forefront while infusing the music with a refreshing uniqueness in both composition and performance.

In “F.I.V.E.” LP, there seems to be nothing they can’t accomplish, nothing they can’t explore, and nothing they don’t care about as a band. Their sound features sharp, powerful guitars, a bass that often dances like bones in a cemetery, drums that serve as the conductor of their orchestra, and a singer who skillfully narrates the crimes and horrors he describes. Post-punk blend with gothic rock under the veil of deathrock (occasionally), and lovely “gruesome” rock and roll music for the living dead of the current societies of the human species…look what you’ll read on their Bandcamp page:

F.I.V.E. – Fear Increases Violent Emotions is a dark descent into identity, tension and redemption… F.I.V.E. explores fear not as weakness, but as a force that shapes who we become.

In the new CPV album, you will discover numerous “glories” and “curiosities.” The album is packed with ideas and features a distinctly intense cinematic flow and structure throughout. However, I want to highlight two additional tracks from the album that truly nailed me for good…try “Desolate Moments” and “Black Noise“… I won’t say why, but please pay attention to them.

In conclusion, it is a very good album, one that offers things within the dark genre, and certainly one that goes on repeat by itself. I’ve come to realize over the years that Christine Plays Viola‘s music can be somewhat difficult to grasp, but if you let it play freely on the stereo without overthinking it, you’ll find yourself absorbed. Ultimately, it leaves you reflecting on the “events” of every “episode”.

So, here is “Fear Increases Violent Emotions” LP by Christine Plays Viola, check it out with great..care!!!

Keep up with Christine Plays Viola
