WL//WH Interview GLIMMER

Washington DC’s newest music festival, due on Saturday, June 20, 2026, will feature Shoegaze and Dream Pop bands based out of the DC area and beyond.
Formed in the spring of 2023, New York-based grungy shoegazers Glimmer, after a string of well-received singles, finally released their debut album, “Get Weak”, in October 2025. The four-piece has proven that not only can they produce heavy-hitting, hook-filled singles, but that their softer, dreamier soundscapes leave just as much of an impression. Recorded in Brooklyn and mastered by Will Yip (Turnstile, Superheaven), the LP, rife with elements of grunge, shoegaze, and dream pop, hits on a certain ‘90s nostalgia while still managing to sound fresh and modern. Glimmer has just dropped their new single, “Someday Sunshine”, don’t miss out!
Thanks so much for the interview. What are Glimmer’s main influences and inspirations?
Our main musical influences are probably Nothing, Smashing Pumpkins, Oasis, the Cure, Dinosaur Jr. and Drab Majesty. We are inspired by just about anything. A feeling. A dream. A memory. Whatever the universe provides.
How would you describe your sound?
That’s always difficult to do, but maybe heavy, fuzzed-out dream pop.
What do the words ‘Shoegaze’ and ‘Dream Pop’ mean to you?”
The term means so many different things these days, and there’s a lot of music being called shoegaze that some would say isn’t (ourselves included?), but that’s ok. It’s lost a bit of its mystery as a genre in some ways, but overall, it’s cool that it’s gotten so popular. To me, I guess it’s somewhat of a blanket term that binds together bands and fans that have the same vision or ethos. So that’s pretty great, I think.
Tell us a little about your recording process and how you create your songs.
Lately, our recording process has changed a bit. Up until recently, we would play live together in a big room and then just do overdubs. Vocals etc. Our latest single we tracked things individually. I like it better this way because it allows a bit more experimentation.
Last year, you finally dropped your praised debut album. What’s your take when you go back on it with a cool head?
Looking back, I’m really happy with the album. I think it’s great and we accomplished what we set out to do, which was capture the band at that moment. There’s always going to be things I’d like to change or do differently, but that’s all part of the process of evolving as a band. I think we learned a lot about ourselves musically and are taking those lessons into the next record. We’re excited to record the next batch of songs.
Which song(s) are you most proud of and best represent the band?
I know every band says it’s their newest stuff but for me it’s “Someday Sunshine”, our latest single. It’s a nice segue into what our next album is going to sound like. We’re very happy with the way it came out. It captures all the best things about our band, in my opinion.
What kind of old/new music are you listening to? Any bands or artists you are excited about at the moment?
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart are a band I always go back to. Greet Death I think is one of the best out there right now. Extremely underrated. All Under Heaven, I love. A lot of Dark Wave. I’ve actually been revisiting the self-titled Third Eye Blind album recently. It’s so amazing. Mostly bands with what I consider to be good songs. Like something more than just a sound or a vibe. Something memorable. I also love the latest Glare record. Trauma Rays‘ last album and EP are great.
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
We’ve been working in a limited fashion with Will Yip. It would be great to work with him more. Sonny Diperri or Zac Montez would be cool to work with as well.
I noticed that you had a European tour last year, which will be replicated more extensively next July. What are your best memories about it?
Yes, this year the tour is going to be longer, and we are finally playing some shows in the UK, which we are really excited about. So many good memories from last year. I think mostly it was meeting all the cool people that knew about the band and came to see us. Also, our last show of the tour was playing at a beach venue on the Adriatic Sea and afterward there was a Grunge/90’s DJ night. We partied pretty hard that night. It was super fun.
What has been your best/worst gig so far (both as a performer and spectator)?
Best as a performer was probably our last show in Troy, NY at No Fun. So many people were into it and we played really well.
Worst, there’s only been a few, and it’s any time I’m sick and can’t really sing. It’s awful. Other than that most shows are great we love playing live.
As a spectator, the best was maybe Oasis at Met Life or Trauma Ray at Trans Pecos, Narrowhead at Bowery Ballroom. I don’t know. So many good ones. Worst? That’s a tough one. I’ll pass on that ha.
What are your expectations for the newcomer Telepathic Windows Fest, and what should the punters expect from your performance?
I hope it’s something that continues to grow as time goes on, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it’s put together. It should be really fun, so I hope people come out. As far as what to expect, people can expect us to be very loud. We might play some unreleased stuff we’re working on too.

What are your plans for the future?
We are touring Europe in July for a month. Then back in the studio. More touring after that, and then next year to tour non-stop ha. Lots of shows is the goal.
Any parting words?
Thanks for asking us these questions. Been a fan of White Light/White Heat for a while, and thanks for supporting us since the beginning.
