PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- TREMOLO: 2025 Playlist
Once again, WL//WH is thrilled to support Seattle‘s Tremolo Fest 2025, three nights of electrifying music with incredible bands on September 25-27. Tickets are already on pre-sale, just follow this link.
- Indonesian DIY bedroom indie-jangle pop band led by songwriter Ganesh, The Silent Love “Future wishes” from the 2-track single “I deserve more than a maybe” [disanorak]
Simultaneously dropped alongside the single from Race, with whom he shared a split EP last January, two captivating guitar-driven, jangling, melodic pop tunes from the band led by experienced songwriter, Ganesha. The upbeat, airy mid-tempo lead track, infused with an infectious The Go-Betweens strain, sways on sparkling stringed guitar riffs, shimmering nostalgically over loving, honest vocals, longing for more love after a confession, evokes a lukewarm response. More reflective, yet equally as heartfelt and breezy, the trembling, glistening b-side highlights stirring, reflective vocals, lost in a daydream of yearning.
- Raleigh, NC dream pop /shoegaze four-piece QWILT “Cross My Heart” from the debut s/t EP
The self-dubbed supergroup from the heart of Raleigh, NC serves up in just over fifteen minutes of their debut EP, an immersive, emotionally charged wandering of noisy, saturated Shoegaze energy combined with sparkling, introspective realms of sugary, dreamlike vocal melodies. One of the songs that stuck out to me, in a work with no filler, was “Cross My Heart,” about a touching childhood memory, stirs slightly scratching, shimmery strummed guitars and rippling, twinkling chords to incessantly cocoon patient, gentle heartfelt vocals, layered with glorious celestial haloes, with sadness, joy, and tenderness.
- Portland, OR-based alternative rock /dreamgaze /shoegaze four-piece band Kallai “The Wave” single from the forthcoming debut LP “We Are Forever” [Little Cloud Records]
Inspired by Susan Stryker‘s “My Words to Victor Frankenstein Above the Village of Chamounix”, a paper about how individuals who do not conform to traditional gender norms are marginalized or excluded, often facing social rejection and stigma. Infused with an enveloping and stirring Dreamgaze flair, light buzzing fuzz-laden mists hover above sharp, wistful, sparkling guitar melodies, rippling vibrant pain-filled tears through light humming bass pulses and muffled off-tempo drum beats, while soft, high, fragile vocals, of a timid child-like quality, fall fearfully through a tumultuous whirlwind of raging emotions.
