Weekly Shoegaze / Dreampop / Psychedelic / Indie Tips – APRIL 2024 – #14-24
PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- Saguenay, Quebec-based new wave /shoegaze /dream-pop duo Minuit Phosphène “Réveille-moi” first single from upcoming EP
The Quebecoise duo’s new single, about the end of a relationship, let their Dreampop nuances prevail, fusing vibrant soaring layers of sparkling, echoing shoegaze guitar textures and sinuously warm bass pulses with emotional washes of glowing synths, imbued with sweeping melancholic melodicism, to inflame beautifully tragic falling vocals with an agony and ecstasy of letting go.
- Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada-based alt-rock /shoegaze musician and producer lil dirtbag “House of Mirrors” single
Canadian shoegazer delivers a sludgy and claustrophobic new single about heartache, which weaves poignant obsessive guitar riffs thick with murky distortion, through a misty reverb-strewn cloud of rickety drum patterns and heavy droning swarms to overwhelm lost ghostly vocals and a flash memory conversation in the doom and gloom of being alone, feeling cursed and unable to move forward.
- Glasgow, Scotland Shoegaze /Dream Pop /Ambient band Perpetual Void “Daffodil” single
An ode of friendship to the ‘Daffodil’ blends gentle echoing reflective glinting chilly guitar rays and swelling gauzy strums imbued with willowy and mellow emotional contemplation over soft tinny percussions and soft bass palpitations, to heartily waft with feather-light dreamy vocals into a blurry yet vibrant spring horizon of hope.
