WL//WH Video Of The Day: THE SYNTH-A ft. Zemra “Κάτι δυνατό/Something Strong” (Official Music Video)

Video Of The Day THE SYNTH-A

The Synth-A, the Greek Synth Noir Pop duo made of Athens-based Stavros Van der Wilt and Venetia Ioakim, try to help locals find public and free detox after the government’s closure of KETHEA, the largest rehabilitation and social reintegration network for mental health and addiction recovery, by placing an informational poster at 3:55 of the Official Music Video for “Κάτι δυνατό / Something Strong”, a dark electropop song featuring the vocals of Zemra and the guitars of Kostis Pyrenis.

Driven by a wicked desire to take ‘Something Strong’ to feel like a god, the urgent pulsing rhythm of humming bass lines and steady marching snare drums, ceaselessly revolves around the swirling shimmery mist of evocative analog synths and ethereal effect filled guitar riffs, whilst haunted, anxious male vocals brood in sync with euphoric airy female layers, amidst quick magnetic spoken word intervals, to conjure feelings of helplessness, obsession, and shame.

The visuals by Make Me Cam Productions set an intoxicating, sparkling, neon-lit backdrop behind The Synth-A as they perform “Something Strong”, with a tablet showing Zemra, in sync with the soundtrack. The vision begins with a shadowy figure ‘walking on water’ up an escalator to suggest feeling elevated, like a god. Later on, the same person is shown on a flat surface during a spoken word confession that explains the bold carelessness felt during thoughts of death. Don’t forget to pause at 3:55 for information about how to access help with public and free detox services.
