Video of the Day MOODY MCIVOR
Previously known for his club-leaning work under the DJ Whipr Snipr moniker, Gold Coast of Australia denizen Chris Mcivor, founder of cult underground label Nerang Recordings, unveils the first single, “Ronnie Adelene,” from his latest Synth-Wave project, Moody Mcivor, alongside the launch of a new sublabel, Ronnie’s Records, created to explore raw, emotive, and immersive sonic worlds.
Part of the forthcoming debut 4-track EP “Shadow Frequencies,” a deeply personal body of work developed over four years with production support from Brazilian-born, Portugal-based musician Felipe Bortoloti (Nørus), and dedicated to the memory of close friend and Friction Control bandmate Benaiah Flu, “Ronnie Adelene” blends gothic textures, mechanical post-punk melancholy, and darkwave atmospheres, signalling a bold and vulnerable new direction.
An introspection of love, loss, and the new life of daughter “Ronnie Adelene” begets rapid skipping beats, sparse groovy drum rolls, shuddering bass lines, and soft airy pads, to stir under a shimmering, wistful sky of sad, anxious synth impulses and chilly, spindly, fluttering chords whilst sober, steadfast baritones, surrender to something higher than self.
A heartwarming companion video of Moody (Christopher) McIvor hanging out with his two-year-old daughter, Ronnie Adelene, offers viewers a chance to see the inspiration behind the soundtrack. The magnificent Australian sun shines along a city river park, where a father’s tender touch evokes a brilliant, beaming smile. Ronnie’s curious, bright eyes absorb everything she sees on a windy day at the beach while her stylish snow leopard sweater keeps her warm.
