WL//WH Video Of The Day: LES LONGS ADIEUX “Valover”

WL//WH Video Of The Day  LES LONGS ADIEUX

Les Longs Adieux, the ceaselessly inventive Italian DIY Darkwave duo from Rome made of Federica Garenna Lee (vocals, synth & programming) and Frank Marrelli (guitars), returns with a video by Federica Garenna herself for the new single Valover, inspired by “Voci Notturne”, a 1995 cult Italian TV Mini-Series written by Pupi Avati and directed by Fabrizio Laurenti.

The topics that played a significant role in the writing of the new album range from Mystery Cults to Secret Societies, from pagan rites to the afterlife. “Valover” is named after one of the key characters in “Voci Notturne” and will be a small tribute to this forgotten gem that has given us so much emotion.

The lyrics talk about a ritual murder in Rome and describe a person’s great regret for becoming lost during an esoteric search that finds unspeakable things.

Valoverdrives an urgent, mysterious flow of steady thudding beats, murky bass throbs, and treacherous, edgy guitar lines, that trot and chug together under a dire array of eerie sizzling keyboard strains, obsessive rippling chords, and nostalgic swooping echoes, to surround impassioned female vocals, filled by fear, remorse, and dark allure, with a sense of thrills and forbidden fascination.

The paired DIY video places intervals of inverted light over Les Longs Adieux as they sleuth around a river and graveyard in sync with the soundtrack. Federica’s eye for detail with her hair, make-up and wardrobe as she performs Valover symbolically matches the different locations filmed during two seasons with distinct climates, chosen to maintain a connection with Voci Notturne.”
