Fresh from joining the US label/collective à La Carte Records, the Mexico City-based minimal synth/synth-pop duo Gris Futuro, made up of Lithuania-native Eglė Naujokaitytė (also known as Muk, for many years a selector and DJ, as well as a radio presenter in Lithuania, Germany and France) and Mexico-born Rogelio Serrano (renowned for his solo project Equinoxious), is going to supply their anticipated debut studio album, “Nowadaze”, on November 7th, not before teasing the latest excerpt, “Mirror-Self”.
Cultivated in the fondness for modular synthesizers and the vintage spell of the 70s/early 80s Electronica, set against the backdrop of Brutalist concrete, the pair construct minimal electronic imaginations driven by analog vibrations and retro-futurist fabrications, teetering between danceable uplifting synth-pop and equally darkened and glittering, deep minimal textures, to reflect a seamless striking tension between nostalgia and modernity.

Equal parts disturbing and playful, “Mirror-Self” is an emotional slice of chilly and twinkly Electro-Pop about how self-concept develops through our perception of how others perceive us.
The track revolves around wobbling, percolating sequences, icy tinkling chimes and enveloping wistful pads, punctuated by tight metallic beats, to envelop soulful and spirited female vocals, flowing into soaring frisky harmonies, layered with glitchy echoes, brimming with serendipity and radiant earnest charm, whilst at the same time questioning, “Am I real?”.
Gris Futuro‘s upcoming debut full-length LP, “Nowadaze”, is slated for release on tasty Vinyl assortments & Digital, on November 7th, via à La Carte Records.
Keep up with Gris Futuro:
