Following the split EP, early in the year, with fellow new wavers Mannequin, Southern California‘s ‘post-wave’ band Post Tropic, founded by Edward Villanueva and Gilbert Melendez, are back as a three piece, with the addition of bassist Eliza.
New single “Live Through Me”, a preview from the forthcoming debut album, strays from the band’s late captivating highly danceable mixture of synth-laden melancholic coldwave and dusky brooding post-punk, if only for its downright depressive, moving and reflective downtempo tones of subdued pent-up emotive tension.
“Live Through Me” explores a bond between two persons, as one is struggling to hold on. Introduced by droning atmospherics and sweeping glassy synth drift into injecting dismal jangly guitar melodies, lashing snares, sparse claps, humming basslines and breaths of soaring bright, plaintive synth emphasizing a forlorn sense of sorrow infused with passionate melancholia, encompassed by the emotional depth of crestfallen vocals, laced with anxiety, fear and confusion, yearning the final words “live through me, fight for life, therefore I, will carry on”.
