WL//WH Track Of The Day: MIDDLE MANAGEMENT “Like You Said”

WL//WH Track Of The Day  MIDDLE MANAGEMENT

In their not too prolific path started in early 2017, somehow freshly combining an array of suggestions that swim in post-punk, dream pop, indie rock, and new wave, Melbourne-based four-piece Middle Management returns with “Like You Said”, the most driving, crystalline, fizzing, yet sharp around the edges and, as they say, “maybe even their poppiest” song so far, with glimmers of early R.E.M..

Born out of an intense period of writing, jamming and beer swilling in the band’s Brunswick rehearsal room, “Like You Said” marks the first Middle Management release to feature the group’s new lineup, with Andy Chalmers and Will Brewster joining founding members Sam Joyce and Stefan Germaine.

“Like You Said” bounces with a spring-loaded energy with the steady and expansive drive of nimble drumming and rubbery, moody bass lines fueling the swaying meandering interlocking of nervous sizzling, chiming guitar melodies and poignant strained baritone tones, against resigned, regretful male vocals brooding, then triumphantly and infectiously soaring, with sheets of uplifting backups, scratched by swiveling high-pitched jigglings, to explore doubt and distrust via push and pull tensions.
