Josef Global is a new act from Gothenburg, Sweden and São Paulo, Brazil, consisting of life companions Renata dS and Joacim SdL.
The duo creates dark, stubborn, synth-driven tracks, entirely composed and recorded from their living room couch, in which surreal lyrics collide with sleep-deprived nonsense.
Flirting with post-punk, EBM, and minimal wave, the duo hovers between different genres, drawing inspiration from such acts as Sparks, Die Form, Kid Fourteen, and Deize Tigrona.
The unit recently dropped their debut single, “Female Digitalia”, taken from Josef Global’s upcoming debut album, due later this fall, which is about present moment awareness through a lens of modern technology.
A nagging, bouncy EBM-like distorted bass sequence combines with tightly pounding kick-snare patterns to set a danceable, skittering electro frenzy, spiraling with wobbly ephemeral synths, sparse, crisply booming double drum strokes and an hypnotic dual vocal interplay of emotionless male and female spoken words, the latter soaring with vibrant operatic energy.
Intricate danceable programmed rhythms and offbeat vocal harmonies construct a bold, peculiar, disorienting ambiance, with sensual undertones, poised between dream and nightmare.
