By connecting California and Dark Music, it immediately brings to mind the glorious L.A. Deathrock scene of the early ’80s, and it was those electrifying patterns that mainly informed False Figure‘s more straightforward, urgent and disturbing yet distinctly catchy acclaimed second album, “Castigations,” released in 2022.
The Oakland-based band led by guitarist/vocalist Andrés Ruiz returns with the new single, “Original Sin”, the first excerpt taken from the upcoming self-released third full-length “INCARNATE,” due out on February 17, 2026, a song that deals with hatred, distress, and sadness through a lens of disenchanted surrender.
The song displays a further atmospheric and thrilling ‘La Vague Froide‘-tinged Post-punk sound rife with sheer, sumptuous melancholy, adding chilled reverb-filled shoegaze shades to the usual striking guitar work, fueled by alluring, brooding bass pulses and bouncy programmed drums, to pierce the obscurity with thorny, wailing lines meandering and shivering with epic, sharp, achingly resonant edges atop grumbly, wistful, and soft, pain-filled vocals, exploring the original sin of a person’s distress.
