PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- Viennese four-piece Power-Pop /Jangle-Pop group Laundromat Chicks – “Want Some Air” [Siluh Records]
The Viennese unit anticipates the incoming, mainly British, French and German tour with an equally buoyant and melancholic, somehow well-wishing new single with guitarist Theresa on vocal duty, enriched by a power pop-rock sound that has never been so dense and choral, glimpsed here and there on last January’s album. The song trots its way through an urgent, energetic dash of ringing strummed guitar riffs laced with the obsessive rambling of freeing piercing leads, whilst an atmosphere of sad, frustrated vocals layer with group choral support, to express a disillusioned romance. Definitely catch them live if you have the chance…
- Eaglehawk, Australia dream pop /shoegaze duo of Megumie Alcala & Robbie Adams, aka Superluminal Objects “My Brain Thinks Your Brain Is OK” single
Second heart-warming single for the Aussie Shoegazing Dream-Pop studio project steered by constant off-tempo drum beats and snaky warm bass lines, creating a pulsating undercurrent for shivering layers of reverb-drenched, subtly droning guitar textures woven with ghostly keyboards, to instill lonesome, melancholic breezes over high obsessive vocals that rise and fall in sad, breathless harmonies, to give another what they want.
- Melbourne-based shoegaze /synth-pop /dream-pop solo project of Nat Chippy, aka Japanese Heart Software “Nice One” single
After a long break, aside from a couple of cover versions, the beloved solo endeavour of Nat Chippy returns with “Nice One,” combining her proverbial deep ethereal dreaminess with crunchy fuzzy guitar riffs in 60s garage-y style, along with the erratic sticky groovy-ness of reedy keyboard chords and evocative blowing licks, on which sway sunshiney playful echoed female vocals, embracing the novelty of modern romance with angst and sass.
