WL//WH Track Of The Day: VÉRITÉ SYNTHÉTIQUE “Pencil Stories”

Track Of The Day   VÉRITÉ SYNTHÉTIQUE

Vérité Synthétique is a minimal new twee pop endeavour from Brittany, formed somewhere between St-Malo and Nantes by Chloé Prioux and François Beaugendre, both members of the angular Post-punk/No Wave foursome Moleskine.

The duo craft brittle and barebone tunes rife with earnest intimacy and bittersweet lyricism, cocooned in the enlivening, warm swings of VU Moe Tucker’s fleeting flashbacks and the Dunedin sound’s immaculate aesthetic, as well as in the exquisite evocative flickers of Young Marble Giants’ past and the inward simplicity of the Bay Area’s Cindy.

“Pencil Stories,” the first excerpt unveiled from the upcoming debut album “Late, It’s Raining!,” as often in France, a co-release between Mostly Interrupted, La Fuite, and Safe In The Rain Records, arouses skeletal subtly crisp percussion bounces, warm bass pulses, and clean shimmery riffs, ringing and gliding around softly spoken, breathy female vocals, joined by baritone haloes near the end, talking about the cathartic aspect of drawing stories.
