WL//WH Video of the Day: VIOLENTENE “Savage City” (Official Video)

Video of the Day  VIOLENTENE

Violentene, the Ottawa, Canada-based Dark Synth Wave duo of Mvrijo (vocals, lyrics) and Roland M (synth, guitar, production), have shared the visuals by Alexis Zeville for the recently released single, Savage City,” a song about struggling against the odds in a decaying city.

A vibrant, busy, slightly off-kilter immersion drives nervous skipping beats and airy whimpering bass throbs under sweeping glowing synth lines, casting shrilling strains of weeping melancholy against layers of secretive, excited, and wild droning female vocals, anxiously exploring the “Savage City.”

“Savage City” leads the viewer through the dark, ominous pathways of urban living through the eyes of Maya, as she is presented with bizarre messages that represent the mental and emotional toll modern life takes on us all, exploring the need for liberation from a metropolis that never rests.

In the Official Video by Alexis Zeville, Valerie Laporte portrays an edgy woman, alone at night in the city, who receives a cryptic handwritten message whilst sitting on the concrete of an underground parking garage. The mood quickly becomes anxious, and she frantically runs to and fro as glitter falls from the sky. Then, out of breath, she struggles behind an iron fence that looks like prison bars before gasping for air out of a car window. Neon lights blur, and layers of motion, mists, and shadows overwhelm the adventurer until she decides to burn the piece of paper with a cigarette lighter.
