Twin Rains, the Toronto-based Dream Pop duo made of producers/musicians Jay Merrow and Christine Stoesser, alongside drummer Greg Smith, rolls out a DIY Official Video, with the dazzling visual effects by Toronto video artist Phil Baljeu, “Creation”, for the fourth single of the year, inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Silmarillion”, written after Christine was deeply moved by the beautiful writing about the creation myth of the Elves.

The new song honors that creation story concept:
“There’s no angst in this song, no complaining or resentment about the modern world; instead, the focus is on the living universe around us and the infinite mysteries it contains.”
A contemplation on the mysteries of existence, the soothingly psychedelic yet dishevelly vibrant, “Creation” radiates cold, shivering and glowing synth atmospherics outward, layered with steady bouncy drums, crisp rippling bass lines, thrilling guitar melodies, and chiming tones, to hypnotically drone and sway together around elated, breathy female vocals, softly soaring and choppily coalescing into a rousing outflow of pulsing and ringing organic vibrancy.

The accompanying music video, shot and edited by Twin Rains with visual effects by Toronto video artist Phil Baljeu, features footage of apple blossoms in full bloom, beginning with an up-close look at white fluffy clouds against a purple sky, setting the magical mood for a metaphysical vision. Then, blurry lilac-tinted limbs, where delicate flowers sit in bloom, gently blow under the high noon sun whilst a masterful use of lights and shadows, tone and hue evokes a sense of waking up to something being created, sculpted, and painted right in front of your eyes.
If you are in the area, be sure to check out Twin Rains on November 22nd at the M for Montreal Music Festival and showcase.
