Video of the Day THE YOUTH PLAY
Up-and-coming London-based Alternative Rock four-piece The Youth Play knots together moody, noisy Post-punk energy with atmospheric, sparkling Shoegaze strains, in their latest single, “Maybe This Was All For Us”, taken from the band’s forthcoming second EP, “someday, forever,” due out on August 15, 2025, paired with the visuals filmed by Pedro Soler
“Maybe This Was All For Us” temperamentally vibrates over trotting drum beats alongside taut thrumming bass lines, to set a frenetic throbbing pace, stretched by wobbling, introspective guitar shimmers and edgy, abrasive riffs around stirring vocals, alternating cold baritone spoken words with warm vulnerable cries, and exaggerated screams, to explore the destructive conflict between an angry, distrusting inner voice and a nice, pleasing façade.

The video, filmed by Pedro Soler, begins with blurry neon visions of the iconic Eiffel Tower before a strobing black and white stage performance by The Youth Play takes hold. Shapeshifting shadows and skewed camera angles evoke an edgy sense of disorientation that reaches a dissociative crescendo, syncing perfectly with the turmoil of the soundtrack.
To celebrate the release of The Youth Play‘s sophomore EP, “someday, forever,” due on August 15, 2025, the band will play a small, intimate headline show at London‘s Mascara Bar on the 29th of August.
