Video of the Day Julii Sharp
The French Indie-Folk singer-songwriter from Toulouse, Julii Sharp supported by musicians Paul Couvreur (choir, electric guitar), Félix Roumier (double bass, guitar bass), Tristan Bocquet (drums), and Olivier Cussac (violin, moog, keyboards), unveils the first excerpt, “Pirate In The Room”, from the upcoming debut full-length album “Burning Line”, scheduled for release on September 26, 2025, via Only Lovers Records. paired with a video by Melanie Furie and Simon Humain.
“The track mixes playful energy with more restrained emotion. It subtly echoes the figure of a slightly pirate father, left stranded, and offers a luminous reading tinged with melancholy.”
Somehow recalling an electric version of Mike Oldfield’s mid-80’s period, “Pirate In The Room” is a deeply sentimental song swept in touching memories, special tokens, and sad regret, that comes to life in a busy lush soundscape of tight, stumbling drum beats, gloomy brooding bass lines, noisy chugging emotional guitars, and wistful obsessive melodies to surround heartfelt nostalgic folk vocals with bittersweet swaying moods.
The cinematic visuals by Melanie Furie and Simon Humain shuffle vibrant sun-streaked outdoor imagery of the band performing “Pirate In The Room” with an array of evocative symbols to seamlessly sync the soundtrack’s theme. The thoughtful use of color, texture, and reflections alters perception and casts a surreal, dreamlike quality into the clip, whilst Julii’s free flowing vibe, along with choreographed group poses and dances, brings an essential playfulness to the vision.
