WL//WH Track Of The Day: SEQUENTIAL ZERO “The Colours of Buried Pain”

Track Of The Day Sequential Zero

Formed in 2020, SEQUENTIAL ZERO, an Aussie/US transcontinental collaboration project between Ant Banister (Sounds Like Winter/Lunar Module/Def FX AU), Bruce Wells (Orcus Nullify US) and Colin Gallagher (Burnt Souls AU), exploring electronic-driven Darkwave, Coldwave and New Wave sounds, have dropped their sophomore 2-song EP unequivocally titled “Second Transmission”.

The band creatively combines cold, lush synth lines, reverb-heavy, searing guitar work and magnetic vocalizations underpinned by a dark churning carpet of a throbbing, often danceable rhythmic section, as in the bouncing second track “The Banishing Spell”,  cloaked in thick shadows ricocheting goth-tinged past echoes of The Dance Society, Joy Division, Pink Turns Blue and Comsat Angels, with lyrics infused of modern dystopic sorrow.

The haunting “The Colors of Buried Pain” lyric-wise blends extreme imagery of heaven and hell, fire and ice into a dramatic melancholy of the disassociated agony that lies buried in the heart of unhealed trauma.

An incessant digging and syncopated dismal bassline mechanically interacts with scattered erratic drum beats, languidly swept by viscous swishing crushed synth drifts laced with glacial desolation, whilst searing layers of guitar subtly pierce lost, fearful, and emotional male vocals, disseminating bitter echoed wakes of anger and frustration into an eternal cycle of impending doom.

A very promising new act to keep an eye out for.

Keep up with Sequential Zero:
