Video Of The Day Draining
Draining, the Southern Australia shoegaze outfit from Adelaide, resurfaces with their first single in two and a half years, “By Your Side”, paired with a Music Video by Douglas Connolly.
The track carries out a highly emotive and vibrant sound reminiscent of Whirr, where insecurity, emptiness, and fear of abandonment suffuse sad sparkling guitars, underlined by steady punchy drum beats and humming bass throbs, to sway into heavily distorted carving riffs, by squealing, and quivering surges around atmospheric vocals, that dramatically switch back and forth from ghostly gloom, to frightened anxious wails, whilst being torn apart by a bunch of conflicting emotions.
In the Official Music Video, filmed by Douglas Connolly, a band member dressed as the classic black and white lovesick clown Pierrot stands alone, waiting for a friend to show up with flowers in hand. Translucent performance clips of Draining performing “By Your Side” overlay the array of symbolic settings, such as railway tracks, a cemetery and a nighttime carnival, syncing seamlessly with the sentiments of the soundtrack.
