Made a name for themselves through unremitting adrenaline-charged live shows across Europe, and three acclaimed albums, Dear Deer, the incandescent unit from Lille, fuse Post-punk, Disco, and Electro into a feverish, danceable cocktail.
The French couple, both on stage and in real life, made up of Clothilde Sourdeval (ex-Cheshire Cat and temporary member of the Cold War) & Frédéric Iovino (ex-Land of Passion and Popoï Sdioh), return to WL//WH with an Official Video by Clothilde Sourdeval herself for “Science Fiction”, the second excerpt taken from the EP “Scifi”, due out on October 9th, via Icy Cold Records.
Lyrically, “Science Fiction” references H.P. Lovecraft’s oldest and most powerful Great Old One, Cthulhu, a cosmic deity who sleeps underwater and communicates with humans telepathically.
Described by the band as “a visceral electro and ritualistic stage energy, evoking a fusion of human and machine”
“Science Fiction” jolts ceaselessly through a zestful, driving groove of hypnotic thumping kick drums, resonant, lashing beats, and buzzy, syncopated bass lines, wobbling together with an off-kilter chaotic whirl of low, rumbling swelling drones and obsessive blaring synth stabs, around spirited layers of strained, restless female vocals and male echoes, building into tension, to unleash euphoric screams, amidst relentless high-flickering loops, culminating in a frenzied cathartic release.
Clothilde Sourdeval‘s visuals blend close-up textures, turning shots of food and organic outdoor nature elements into a trippy, colorful feast, where faces, arms, and geometric shapes appear unexpectedly. Scenes of Dear Deer in a small pool with glitter body paint, switching red eyes, and a Sci-Fi mask, evoke an intimate, sensual vibe that syncs seamlessly with the soundtrack.
