WL//WH Video Premiere: CAPITOL “Smashing” on Nostalgic Bliss

WL//WH Premiere  CAPITOL

We hoped to convey that feeling of something special and fleeting, momentous but not everlasting. A story about a young teenager reflecting on their identity and surroundings. The sounds of 80s synth and 90s rhythms seemed to match the through-line of hopeless nostalgia with the VHS aesthetic of the video

Hamilton, Ontario’s five-piece indie rockers, Capitol, drop the second preview, “Smashing”, taken from the upcoming 4-track EP, “All The Rest Of My Heads”, scheduled to be released, ltd. Vinyl 12″ & Digital formats, on Sept 17th, 2021, via Spanish independent label Meritorio Records, accompanied by an evocative music video, produced & directed by Black Lake & Josh Kemp and starring Daniel Vonsteun, WL//WH is very pleased to premiere.

Blending crystalline jangly dreampop vibes with new wave-ish clarion keyboard washes, “Smashing” composes, lyric-wise, an inner dialogue to ponder the finality of a relationship with a witty goodbye and a catharsis of self-discovery.

Cinematic field recordings of urban bustle give way to the comfort of glistening, wistful guitar melodies sewing hope and loss into an undertow of sad, meandering bass lines and soft off-tempo beats, whilst the warm bittersweet glow of synth swathes soars upward in glee to nourish the longing and melancholy of evocative male vocals with a mercurial wave of sentimental bliss, as the angsty caress of a back-up vocal chorus pulls cautiously into the tepid tides of fate.

The dramatic video shot on location in Hamilton, Ontario by Black Lake & Josh Kemp, uses analog VHS to dive into the mind’s eye of imagination with nostalgia and intimacy. Carefree days bathed in prismatic rays of sunshine wander through the hazy city streets of summertime to blur past and present dreams into a whimsical breeze of spontaneous youth before turning to the open fields of the countryside to find a future destiny in the sunset’s vast horizons.

Capitol new 4-songs EP, “All The Rest Of My Heads”, is due out Sept 17th, 2021 on Ltd. Vinyl 12″ & Digital formats. Pre-order the Ltd. Milky Clear Vinyl through the band’s Bandcamp or Meritorio Records.
