Track Of The Day MARCHING BAND
Swedish Indie Pop purveyors since 2004 Erik Sunbring and Jacob Lind, a.k.a. Marching Band, return for their first new music in 7 years with the incoming sixth studio album, “Is It Too Sharp?”, rife with the band’s trademark lush harmonies and unison vocals, echoing the melancholic glimmer of Camera Obscura, Belle & Sebastian, Shins and Prefab Sprout’s vocal intimacy, further enhanced, this time, by the collaboration with songwriter extraordinaire Peter Morén of Peter Björn and John fame as well as fresh from the recently solo venture as Sunyears.
One of the three tunes co-penned by Peter Morén, along with the latest single “Talk To Me”, “Bad Times”, lyrically about a person who keeps hopeful during a roller coaster ride of psychotherapy sessions by remembering that “Bad Times” lead to good times, is a crystalline jangling pop that borders on perfection, shining in all its unique kaleidoscopic palette of hooks, sheen and warmth.
Perky drums along with a sinuous round bassline pulse beneath a sparkling tapestry of crisp emotive guitar melodies that arpeggiate, echo and stretch, wandering with a distinctive bittersweet pristine chiming edge around angsty wistful vocals, longingly aching with a layered array of nostalgic backup, with an equally tender, upbeat and forlorn charm.
Marching Band’s 6th LP, “Is It Too Sharp?”, is due out, Vinyl 12″ & Digital, on April 5, 2024.
