Since 2009, Minneapolis-based quartet The Rope revels in obscure, hypnotic and epic 80s-tinged visions of Post Punk, Darkwave, and Gothic Rock tropes, with influences ranging from The Chameleons to The Sisters of Mercy.
The first excerpt from the forthcoming new album, the lead and title track “Nightbird”, about a person aroused and enticed by another’s exciting body, blends dark gothic mystique with lush fleshly dances and majestic poignant melodies, fueled by Billy Duffy-like both blazing and atmospheric guitar work and magnetic vocal delivery.
A vibrant steady propulsion of thumping drum beats throbs alongside meandering sonorous basslines, torn by powerful plaintive spiky guitar riffs, that majestically resonate with baleful bright synth swirls atop intensely restless and sensual vocals, rising into imperious howls of passion.
The Rope‘s upcoming new album, “Nightbird”, is slated for release on October 4, 2024 via Swiss Dark Nights.
